One day I got some mail from my mother who made a copy of this article she read in the newspaper about a college basketball coach who was talking about being resilient. My mom suggested I read that article & she highlighted the word "Resilient" in the title of the article. I didn't know it then but I needed to read that article. It at the time became one of the many things that kept me going forward while I was considering whether or not I wanted to drop out of college!
You see I at that time in my life didn't & couldn't see my "WHY a.k.a my reason for pushing forward so I found it difficult to be able to bounce back from my moments of disappoint & failure. I let doubt creep into my mind & every time things didn't go the way I planned, I would sit & dwell in self pity and it would take me forever to bounce back. I didn't have faith in my ability to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions and/or situations. And my mother felt & saw that from me. So being the great mother that she is, she sent me the article AND she also gave me a call so that we could discuss it (she just wanted to check to see if I did what she asked me to do, you know how moms are...lol).
During our conversation, My mother asked "WHY" I was in college, she asked me "WHY" I was pursuing the particular career I told her I was passionate about, and she asked me "Who" was I doing this for. After answering those questions I began to understand my "WHY" a.k.a my reason for doing what I was doing. It was like a light bulb went off in my head. My mom then explained to me that the only person who can defeat me is ME! She also went on to say that whenever I felt like quitting then you need to go back and remember why I started on my journey in the first place. WOW...and in that moment I understood that if I wanted something bad enough that I should not let myself or anyone else stop me from living up to my highest potential. I should exhaust every option & opportunity I possibly can until there is nothing left to try.
Knowing my "WHY" a.k.a my reason for pushing forward allowed me to keep going. I didn't know exactly how I was going to move forward but I made a conscious discussion to figure it out and to not be stagnant. When your "WHY" is big then you will find your how! When you know your "WHY" then you will be able to know your reason for bouncing back from situations that might make you feel down! It is being Resilient! It is moving through life with a spirit of resilience that will make us strong & see us through to that light at the end of the tunnel! YES!
I urge you all to find your "WHY" so that when those moments of disappoint, mistakes, & possible failures happen, you are able be resilient/bounce back because of your "WHY"!
I have included this awesome clip on Resiliency created by Mateusz for you all to check. Let me know what you all think about the clip & this blog. Stay connected with me so that we can continue to encourage each other & remember to keep moving in the spirit of resilience!
